Get to know Catania in a fun and filling way by taking a street food tour of the city. Not only will you see its most important historic buildings but you’ll eat to your heart’s content in the shadow of the imposing but beautiful Mount Etna.
Your tour kicks off in the historic center of Catania where you’ll meet an expert local guide who will show you the way to the fish market, also known as “la pescheria”, as the locals call it, where you will have the chance to taste some of the best local fresh delicacies the market stands have to offer.
Though some visitors would quite happily spend all day at the fish market, we’re going to show you as much of the city as we can. And no trip to Catania is complete without a stroll along the via Crociferi, famous for its churches. Then, it’s onto Catania’s main street, the Via Etnea, which will bring you to a Roman amphitheater that was excavated more than 100 years ago - easily one of the most impressive things you’ll see during your holiday.
As we all know, walking can make you hungry. And if you’re on a food tour, you’ll want to be stopping as much as possible. Well, how do some tastings of local street food sound? Depending on the season, you might get cipollina (made with puff pastry, tomato, onion, mozzarella and ham); horse-meat meatballs barbecued over hot coals; or the “legendary cipollata” (spring onions wrapped in bacon. There’ll also be opportunities for dessert - such as a dainty cannolo or a refreshing granita.
