The Gallery is particularly known for housing one the most significant attractions of the city: Michelangelo’s David statue. On showcase we also have his famous unfinished statues: the Prisoners, St. Matthew and his Pietà. The David statue was transferred here, to the designated tribune, from Piazza della Signoria in 1873. The other works comprise mostly religious paintings by minor artists working in and around Florence between the mid-13th and the late 16th centuries. There is also the most significant collection of plaster models by the 19thcentury sculptors Lorenzo Bartolini and Luigi Pampaloni, besides a section of Russian icons. Recently, the Gallery has been further enriched with an important collection of old musical instruments from the Cherubini Conservatory. Visits are available everyday except for Mondays. Hotel pick up available.
