Step off the beaten path, enjoy an adventurous journey into Tuscany’s heart and soul! Our signature Lucca & Marble Experience allows you to discover the many attractions of charming Lucca, one of Tuscany’s jewel towns, and visit an authentic, working, marble quarry in the mountains with the privilege of private transportation, private guide assistance and an exciting mountain-side adventure aboard a rumbling Jeep. Savor the ride and the views traveling to Lucca, a town which appears like a vision encased as it is by imposing Renaissance walls, and famous worldwide as the birthplace of the great composer Giacomo Puccini. Meet your private dedicated English-speaking guide and set off on a memorable walking visit of this exquisite town. Unveil its secrets, learn all about its eventful centuries-old history and admire the characteristic vibrant colors: the soft red of the rooftops and brick walls, shiny white marble of palaces and churches, and resplendent green of the many sumptuous private gardens, make Lucca an icon of the Italian flag! Led by your guide you will discover all major sights and landmarks among which Piazza San Michele in Foro, with its gorgeous church, Piazza Napoleone, Palazzo Ducale, the lovely Teatro del Giglio and the Cathedral of San Martino, where the wooden crucifix known as Volto Santo (the “Holy Face”) and famous sarcophagus by Jacopo della Quercia are housed. Wander down bewitching medieval streets to the ever-fascinating elliptical Piazza Anfiteatro, see the house where Puccini was born and discover “le Mura” Lucca’s most extraordinary feature: massive, perfectly preserved, 40-meter high city walls, which extend over 4 kilometers! Today the whole of the ancient walls is a park and pedestrian promenade. Stroll through the well-groomed lawns lined by century-old trees and enjoy awe-inspiring views of the town below. Relish some time at leisure to appreciate Lucca’s peaceful atmosphere and relish delicious local specialties at a restaurant/trattoria or café of your choice.

After lunch it's time for some adventure! Meet your dedicated quarry guide and driver (a highly skilled professional off-the-road expert) and set off with a rumble aboard a state-of-the-art Jeep. Head up the mountain, journey through places inaccessible to most vehicles, zigzag along gravel and reach a busy, active cava di marmo, a marble quarry located at an altitude of 900 meters. Enjoy a genuine insider’s view of the marble extraction, see the workers in action and learn all about this extremely difficult and exacting job. Continue your adventure traveling on upwards, to appreciate spectacular views of the Apuan Alps and the Mediterranean Sea from an altitude of 1200 meters, and visit yet another, fascinating, marble quarry dug out “tunnel-like” right inside the mountain.

For a perfect crescendo end to your day savor the unique flavor of the famed flagship local specialty: premium artisan-produced lardo di Colonnata! Rose-veined and marble-white Colonnata lard is high-quality lard, spiced and put to mature in marble tanks and rubbed with garlic, A superb and rare product with a heavenly taste!
