Rising behind the striking Basilica di San Lorenzo, and part of the same vast religious complex, the chapels are the burial place of 49 members of the Medici family. Meet your private guide and set off to explore this treasure chest of history, art and Florentine heritage. Decorated with a plethora of granite, marble, semiprecious stones and some of Michelangelo’s most beautiful sculptures the breathtaking Medici Chapels allow you to dive into the eventful history of Florence’s most remarkable lords. Admire the mesmerizing New Sacristy, Michelangelo’s first architectural work, where Lorenzo Il Magnifico is buried, and the Chapel of the Princes, a monumental mausoleum decorated entirely in polychrome marbles and semi-precious stones. Follow your guide into the Crypt that houses the tombs of the Medici Grand Dukes and their family members, and through the Lorenese Crypt, which, alongside the remains of the Lorena family, houses the funerary monument to Cosimo the Elder.
